Awards for the best oral and poster presentations @ NLN 2023

Award of the Amicitia Association

The Amicitia Association awards an Excellence Prize in recognition of outstanding scientific research in all areas of neuroscience. The aim of the award is to support graduates from the doctoral programs in neuroscience in the Lemanic area who are continuing their scientific career in an international academic institution.

Please see the website of the Amicitia Association for more information and application procedures.

Meeting of the NeuroLeman Network and Doctoral Schools 2021 (NLN’21)
Program and other details

The 2021 edition of the Meeting of the NeuroLeman Network and Doctoral Schools took place on 7 May 2021, adapting a fully online format due to the Covid pandemics. The meeting program was organized by Claudia Bagni (DNF-UNIL) and Ron Stoop (CNP-CHUV) as PIs, as well as NeuroLeman junior researchers.
The detailed meeting program can be found here, and the abstract book as well as more information under: https://drive.switch.ch/index.php/s/ulyI3dVtYkoJQKS

Awards of the Jean Falk-Vairant Foundation for the best presentation/poster of PhD candidates

The Foundation Jean Falk-Vairant each year attributes two presentation prizes during the meeting. In 2021, the awards went to Karin Bortolin from the Eliez lab and Ali Nourizonoz from the Huber lab in Geneva.

NeuroLéman Network Awards for the best presentations of PhD candidates

The awards for the best oral presentations during the meeting went to Andrea Lopes & Laura Solanelles from the Telly lab in Lausanne, as well as to Alejandro Osorio-Ferero from the Lüthi lab in Lausanne (from left to right).

Annual Meeting of the NeuroLeman Network and Doctoral Schools 2020 (NLN’20)
NeuroUnlocked Apero @ Campus Biotech Geneva

Unfortunately, the NLN’20 had to be cancelled, please join us (given that Covid sanitary measures will permit) for a NeuroUnlocked Apero

When: September 4, 2020 @ 17h
Where: Campus Biotech Geneva

The first half of 2020 has been very challenging for many of us in terms of professional and private life, and whether the end of the year will be less challenging no one really knows … For this reason, we would like to propose a little get-together to you, meeting your colleagues in person instead of on-screen (albeit likely behind a mask), maybe share some thought about the last months and the coming ones over a snack and a beverage …

Plus, we would like to take the opportunity to present you the recipients of local neuroscience awards in 2020, hoping to encourage the NeuroLeman community to work hard, but also to take care of their physical and mental well-being!

1st Annual Meeting of the NeuroLeman Network and Doctoral Schools 2019 (NLN’19)
Program and other details

The NeuroLeman Network and Doctoral Schools Meeting took place on May 2-4, 2019, in Les Diablerets . Photos of the meeting can be found here .

While May 2 will be a day for Lemanic PIs to meet and discuss, May 3 and 4 are dedicated to lectures, encounters, presentations and social activities common for PhD candidates and PIs.

The meeting program on May 3-4 is organized by members of the BMI-EPFL, namely

  • as PIs: Kathryn Hess-Bellwald, Gabriele Grenningloh, Carl Petersen & Ralf Schneggenburger and
  • as student commitee: Cristina Colangelo, Nathan Riguet, Choung Oh-Hyeon (EPFL)

Program details can be found below; plenary lectures will be given by:

  • Michael Hausser (University College London, UK): All-optical interrogation in behaving animals
  • Laura Andreae (Centre for Developmental Neurobiology, King’s College London, UK): The role of spontaneous neurotransmitter realease during neuronal development
  • Kathryn Hess-Bellwald (EPFL): Topological insights in neurocience
  • Pavan Ramdya (EPFL): Reverse-engineering drosophila behavior

15 Data Blitz talks by PhD candidates in neuroscience from the Lemanic region wil complete the scientific talk program. The slots are given on a competetive basis once PhD candidates choose the option to present a concise insight into their research when submitting their presentation abstract. The blitz talk should not last longer than 10min (and leaving 3min for questions from the audience).

On Friday evening, all PhD candidates are asked to present their research in a poster session, paralleled by an aperitif with many possibilities to discuss with fellow students and more senior researchers. These discussions can of course be continued at the conference dinner at the Hotel Victoria. All oral and poster presentations will enter the competition for the Jean Falk-Vairant award as every year.

The Foundation Jean Falk-Vairant each year attributes two prizes during the meeting, i.e.

– for the best poster or oral presentation in fundamental neuroscience
– for the best best poster or oral presentation in clinical/applied neuroscience

In 2019, the prizes went to Tamara Zehnder (DNF-UNIL) and Janir R. da Cruz (BMI-EPFL). Congratulations!

However, as there were numerous great presentations by PhD candidates, this year’s meeting organizers spontaneously created a second prize, the BMI-EPFL prize

– for the best poster or oral presentation in fundamental neuroscience
– for the best best poster or oral presentation in clinical/applied neuroscience

These ones were attributed to Aiste Baleisyte (BMI-EPFL) and Corrado Sandini (UNIGE). Well done!
