HKT2018 workshop abstract submission open
The abstract submission and registration for the Himalaya-Karakorum-Tibet workshop (10-12. September, Lausanne) is now open until end of April. Visit the conference website for the second circular and detailed information, including the logistics and the registration page.
Educational and Citizen seismology workshop
This week Shiba Subedi is participating at the Discussion Workshop on Educational and Citizen Seismology in London. Beyond presenting his own project, it is a great opportunity to learn about ongoing activities and the latest news of instrumentation for a branch of seismology that reaches far beyond researchers.
Journées Biennales
Next week will be the “Journées Biennales des Géosciences et de l’Environnement” at UNIL. It is a French-speaking event to bring together academic, governmental and private research on the broad topic of Earth sciences. On Wednesday the 14th of February will be the session La recherche fondamentale et appliquée en géologie. On Thursday will be held the 3rd meeting day of natural dangers, running under the title “Au-delà de l’aléa”, ou comment proposer une gestion intégrée des risques naturels?
AlpArray Receiver Function Working Group Meeting
The first full meeting of the AlpArray Receiver Function Working Group will be hosted by our group on January 29-30, 2018. Planning to gather 18 participants representing almost all institutions of the working group, we will discuss research topics, methods, tools, as well as collaborations among the group and with other groups.

Yeti…
Although not really a geoscience topic, everyone working in the Himalaya has heard of the famous and notorious yeti.
If you have and are interested and concerned, here are some important news…

German AlpArray SPP “MB-4D” started
The German component of the AlpArray program runs under a special program (SPP) of the German Science Foundation, under the title Mountain Building Processes in 4D. The first annual meeting was held in Potsdam on November 9-10, and hosted all German participants (and more) as well as a number of international AlpArray colleagues. More information on MB-4D can be found on their website: www.spp-mountainbuilding.de
