Marie obtained her MSc in Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology with a specialisation in Biocomputing from EPFL in 2019. During her Master studies she did an internship in the Center of Integrative Genomics at the University of Lausanne which aimed to find signatures of ongoing selection processes against deleterious variants in the modern human population within the UK Biobank.
She completed her 6-month Master’s thesis in a start-up company where she worked as a data scientist within a team of computer scientists and biologists. She was in charge of developing a computational model based on machine learning techniques to assist in the online monitoring of the microbiological water quality through flow cytometry. She continued working in the company on database related software projects for another 3 months before joining the Statistical Genetics Group to start a PhD under the supervision of Zoltán Kutalik.
In her project, Marie will aim at identifying biomarkers of cardiometabolic diseases and exploiting causal transcriptome-disease links to improve drug repositioning.
