My name is Anuradha Karunakalage, and I am currently pursuing my doctoral studies as a cotutelle Ph.D. student jointly enrolled at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and the University of Lausanne (UNIL). I am affiliated with the Rock and Fluid Multiphysics Laboratory (RFML) at IIT Roorkee and the Risk Group at UNIL. I completed my undergraduate studies in Geology at the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka, followed by my first postgraduate program in Remote Sensing and GIS at the UN-affiliated Centre for Space Science and Technology Education in Asia and the Pacific (CSSTEAP), Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), ISRO. I was awarded the CSSTEAP Bronze Medal (2019/2020) for academic excellence during the program. Driven by my deep interest in applied sciences, particularly within the Geosciences, I pursued a second postgraduate degree in Applied Geology from the Department of Earth Sciences at IIT Roorkee. My academic journey has been supported by several prestigious research grants, among them the ThinkSwiss Research Scholarship through Swissnex, Switzerland, which facilitated my pathway to join the Risk Group at UNIL. The three-month research stay at UNIL under the supervision of Prof. Michel Jaboyedoff established the foundation for my current research collaboration for my Ph.D. thesis. My research interests focus on Hydrogeophysics and Hydrogeodesy, where I integrate InSAR, GRACE, borehole geophysics, and GNSS techniques to address complex hydrogeological problems.
For the academic year 2025–2026, I am a recipient of the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship and have joined the Risk Group at UNIL. I am presently working under the supervision of Prof. Jaboyedoff on the development of a 1D poroelastic model for aquifer-system compaction in alluvial landscapes, which constitutes the final phase of my doctoral research.
