Call for submissions

Dear students,

We are rejoiced to announce that MUSE is now open for business submissions! Many new editors have joined the team, so don’t worry about being too creative – we’re ready to handle any kind of written art. 😌

Submissions

If you have written anything in English recently, whether it be articles on issues that you’re passionate about, short stories, poetry, recipes, reviews, or even artwork, we want it. If you want to change up the rhythm of academic writing, try your hand at creative texts, or just have the opportunity to have your work and voice published, then MUSE is for you! For example, if you have written a creative assignment for a class, that is something we like to showcase.
There is no word limit and authors have the option to be credited using initials, a pen name, or anonymously. You can also add a picture you’ve taken yourself, or a free license one, to illustrate your words.

Ask-the-Students

In addition to showcasing written works, each issue features special segments such as staff interviews, quizzes, and writing competitions. This time around, we are excited to introduce another installment of our Ask-the-Studentspoll. This semester’s question is: If you could go back in time and talk with your past self what would you tell them? Go fill-out the form anonymously!

Fun fact… The English department is home to the student-run Creative Writing Club! They meet every other Tuesday (08.10, 22.10, 12.11, 26.11 & 10.12) in a pressure-free environment, and snacks and prompts are provided. Whatever is produced by CWC participants is publishable! Join them for a session or two!

Short story contest

Don’t miss out on the amazing opportunity to win gift vouchers from Books Books Books, the English bookshop in Lausanne. This semester’s short story contest is about…

People and Places

Let yourself be inspired by places you remember and love, or even fictional places, and the people linked to it. The word limit is 1500w. Entries will be published as regular submissions after being evaluated by our jury:

  • Marie Emilie Walz, Modern English and Comparative Literature
  • Matthew Scully, American literature
  • 4 editors, MUSE
  • Matthew Wake, Books Books Books

We cannot wait to read your exceptional contributions and wish you a great Fall semester. In the meantime, give us a follow on IG @muse.unil and check out our website 😊

Love,
The MUSE Team 🤎
