Dissolved organic matter in lakes is more than the only sum of its parts.
Simulating vertical and lateral mixing in Lake Geneva, Thibault showed that the decay of DOM is faster when different DOM pools get mixed. This non-conservative patterns of decay are not related to the original composition of those pools, but instead to which microbial activities are activated.
Congratulations Thibault!

A great work from the PhD candidate Thibault Masset ( LCME, University of Savoies-Mont-Blanc) about PCB transfers to lake fish.

a 50-day complimentary access for all….
Lexplore, the 100 m2 platform for high-frequency monitoring and experimentation of Lake Geneva is now on the lake, ready to get equipped with all our sensors and on-site lab devices.
Lexplore is a project initiated by EAWAG, EPFL and UNIGE and conducted along with UNIL, that finally came true.

Always tricky to represent depth, time passing and relationships between different nutrient forms…
I found out that GIF were quite helpful… Here are changes in DIN (in relationships with DO), Phosphates and DO-CO2 for Lake Geneva in 2014…
hint: thermocline settles around 20 m in summer…
