Philipp Sommer is a climate scientist working on a computer model to simulate the land use change during the Holocene due to climate and human impact. Furthermore he is the main developer of the psyplot package dealing with the visualization of scientific data.
During his master he focused on the interdisciplinary land-human-climate interactions and developed an irrigation scheme for the Earth-System Model of the Max-Planck-Institute in Hamburg, Germany (MPI-ESM) by combining it with the partial equilibrium model FASOM. Meanwhile he worked at the Max-Planck-Institute with the development of climate models and the evaluation and visualization of climate model data. Among other things, he was involved in the ISI-MIP Project using the hydrologic model MPI-HD and in the development of a hydrologic evaluation routine for the ESMValTool.
