New article by Sandrine Baume on Carl Schmitt’s critique of political compromises

“Carl Schmitt’s Multifaceted Rejection of Political Compromises,” a new article by Sandrine Baume, is now published in The Review of Politics. Friderike Spang’s article “Compromise in Political Theory” accepted

Friderike Spang’s article entitled “Compromise in Political Theory” has been recently accepted for publication in Political Studies Review. Check its abstract below:

This review article provides a topic-centered overview of the state of compromise in political theory, where compromise is increasingly discussed as a promising approach to dealing with disagreement in politics and society. Given the growing literature on compromise, a systematic approach to the topic is due. The first sections are focused on clarifying the concept of compromise, while the remainder of the article offers different perspectives on those aspects of compromise that are subject to debate.

Friderike Spang presents her work on intra-personal compromises and vegan activism (ASPP 2022)

Friderike Spang, from the UPCiDe team, recently presented her current work on the role of intra-personal compromise for vegan activism at the Annual Conference of the Association for Social and Political Philosophy (ASPP) in Durham, England, and at the ECPR (European Consortium for Political Reserach) General Conference in Innsbruck, Austria.

Sandrine Baume presents her work on populism and compromise (ECPR 2022)

On 23 August 2022, Sandrine Baume, from the UPCiDe team, will be presenting some of her most recent research on political compromises at the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR) General Conference, which takes place at the University of Innsbruck this year.

Her paper, co-authored with Yannis Papadopoulos, is entitled “Why So Much Hatred? The Normative Reasons for Populists’ Disdain for Compromises.” It aims at analyzing the reasons behind the oft-repeated conflict between the populist ideology and the practice of compromise.
