Edition 2025

The third edition of the Assises genre/numérique will be held on 13 and 14 February 2025 at EPFL.

The ‘Gender equality and digital transformation’ (genre/numérique) project, led by UNIL’s Equality Office in partnership with EPFL, HES-SO, HEG-FR and the StrukturELLE association, aims to create synergies between gender equality and digital transformation. This project was initiated to remedy the lack of interaction between these two areas, which limits their impact.

For the third and final edition of the Assises genre/numérique, the objective is to continue the work begun in the first two parts and to present good practice and relevant case studies. Discussions will focus on two main themes :

Algorithmic biases in artificial intelligence

Artificial intelligence is playing an increasingly important role in our day-to-day decisions. However, when its algorithms are based on biased data, they can reproduce gender stereotypes and accentuate existing inequalities. These biases, often invisible behind apparent technological objectivity, require critical analysis to encourage fairer and more inclusive
practices.

Sex work in the digital world

Platforms such as OnlyFans are giving rise to numerous debates on the economy of prostitution and exploitation, but also on the empowerment and financial autonomy of the people working in the industry. These debates combine ethical, economic and human rights issues. Tackling this taboo subject also means asserting that digital gender equality cannot be built without integrating the most complex and sometimes disturbing realities of our society.
