On Tuesday, 28th of march, Bernhard C. Schär and Ashkira Darman presented a report commissioned by the city of Zurich. It is entitled « Zürcher ‘Mohren’-Fantasien. Eine begriffs- und baugeschichltliche Auslegeordnung, ca. 1400-2002’ and can be downloaded here.
The report examines the genealogy of the term « Moor » in german speaking Europe from medieval crusades, through the time of the transatlantic slave trade and colonisation to current debates on ‘raceless racism’.
