Welcome to our website !

This research group, hosted by the University of Lausanne and financed by Swiss National Science Foundation, reevaluates Swiss history by exploring its role in 19th century European imperial expansion.

Despite Switzerland’s neutral stance, it actively participated in global dynamics. The study focuses on three regions – Mangalore in British India, Lesotho in Southern Africa, and Bahia/Rio de Janeiro in Brazil – where Swiss influence was significant.

Methodologically, the project collaborates with universities globally, examining sources in multiple languages to provide insights into shared histories across continents and contribute to building common futures in our globalized world.
