This publication is the result of a joint effort between scientists and practitioners from various institutions. In particular, it was a collaboration with IUCN through the contribution of former IUCN Affiliate Flore Lafaye de Micheaux. It was one of the most cited articles of the journal in 2023.

This publication is a result of the thesis of Samantha Sithole. She studied the involvement of youth in international conservation, including at the IUCN World Conservation Congress in 2021. She assisted with the coordination of the partnership from 2019-2024.
