The third edition of the biannual Microbialites: formation, evolution, diagenesis (M-fed) conference will be held the 11-13th of October 2023 in Leysin, Switzerland, and remotely.
The aim of the conference is to discuss state-of-the-art microbialite research, emerging techniques and proxies, and the latest outcomes in this field of research.
The conference is designed to promote active discussion and insights, particularly from graduate students and post-doctoral researchers. About 1-2 hours of each afternoon will be dedicated to small breakout group meetings or workshops on various topics of microbialite research.
Scientific Aims
Experimental approaches and pioneering methods in the lab and the field
Biogeochemistry of modern microbialites
Insights from ancient stromatolites in the fossil record
Throughout the conference there will also be an ongoing poster session accessible during coffee breaks and animated each evening before dinner. A scientific collection of microbialites under curation of P. Sans-Jofre and kindly lent by the Muséum National d’Histoire Naturelle in Paris will be exhibited in the poster room. This collection has been made by scientist for scientist. A new page on the Microbialite website has been created to that purpose and a dedicated workshop session will help to establish the rules of use and data sharing program.
