3 projects in video that explore and support ecological and social transformation

Funded through UNIL’s STRIVE program, these interdisciplinary projects, led in part by researchers from HEC Lausanne, explore practical levers for transition in mobility, collective narratives, and public policies.

How can we transform our lifestyles and social structures to address environmental challenges?
Through three complementary projects, research teams combine their expertise to analyze, imagine, and support the ecological transition.

1. What narratives for ecological transformation ?
In response to dominant narratives that often hinder engagement, whether it’s excessive technological optimism or paralyzing apocalyptic visions, this project aims to rethink collective imaginaries to foster a meaningful ecological transition. Professors Stéphanie Missonier and Estefania Amer from HEC Lausanne collaborate with colleagues from the Faculties of Lettres and Social and Political Sciences.

2. How can we plan for ecological and social transformation ?
This project addresses governance and public policy challenges for a more sustainable and equitable Switzerland. Using a dynamic model to test different transition scenarios, it offers a toolkit for change agents. Legal analysis of barriers and opportunities within existing regulations is also central to the work. Prof. Eric Jondeau is one of the lead researchers involved.

3. Switzerland by bike !
This project studies the potential of cycling as a lever for ecological and social transformation of mobility in Switzerland. Among the researchers involved is Prof. Virginie Lurkin. The project examines mobility practices through individual behaviors, travel dynamics, and public policies, with particular attention to the diversity of populations and territories.
