Call for Proposals

As part of the third edition of the Assises genre/numérique, which will be held on 13 and 14 February 2025 at EPFL, we are launching a call for contributions for the ‘In Depth’ workshops, scheduled for the afternoon of 13 February 2025.

In Depth Workshops

The ‘In Depth’ workshops aim to explore a range of algorithmic biases, beyond gender issues, and to examine tools and approaches to remedy them. They also address an essential democratic challenge: by better understanding these mechanisms, everyone will be able to question automated decisions and take part in discussions on the transparency and accountability of technologies in a more informed way. These workshops will provide critical tools for better navigation in the digital society, enabling everyone to play an active part in its transformation towards greater justice and inclusion.

Objectives of the workshops

The ‘In Depth’ workshops aim to:

  • Share case studies, best practices and ideas with a view to examining algorithmic biases and identifying areas where solutions still need to be developed. The aim is to highlight not only what works, but also the challenges still unresolved in the fight against bias.
  • Encourage interactive group discussions, enabling a dynamic exchange between participants. The aim is to create a space where everyone can ask questions, share experiences and co-construct innovative solutions in a collaborative and open setting, without the need for specialised training in the field.

The workshops should last 60 minutes and will be held simultaneously, giving participants the choice of attending the themed workshop that interests them most. They may be given in English or French.

Call for proposals

We are inviting researchers and stakeholders in the field to submit workshop proposals.

More information on submission requirements in the PDF of the call for proposals.

Send your proposals to natasha.stegmann@epfl.ch before 20 November 2024 (extension of the deadline is possible on request).

The workshops selected will be chosen by the steering committee and the project’s scientific committee on the basis of the relevance of the subjects addressed and the quality of the activities proposed.

We look forward to hearing your ideas and working with you!
