Please note that lunches are not included. Participants are welcome to eat at one of the cafeterias on campus, or to purchase food in town to have a picnic by the lake. Some dining options are also available on the EPFL campus (metro stop: EPFL, three stops from UNIL-Chamberonne). There are also two small grocery stores (Migros and Denner) on the EPFL campus near the metro stop.

Rates for online participation
The registration fee for online participation is 75 CHF. Online registration must be completed by 30 June 2024.
Online participants have access to:
- the plenary lectures
- the parallel lectures
- seminars and roundtables which are listed as “online” in the conference programme
Details will be sent to online participants after registration closes.
Fee waivers
A limited number of partial/full fee waivers for the ESSE Conference is available to in-person participants who can demonstrate that the regular fee would be a financial hardship for them. Please contact the organisers at esse2024 [at] unil.ch by 15 June 2024 with such requests.
Fee waivers will cover only the basic registration fee for the conference, not the social activities or conference soirée.
Eligibility will be limited to ESSE members:
- who are doctoral students or have finished their PhD thesis after 1 January 2015 (a statement in English from the supervisor is sufficient), or
- who are from low-income countries (regardless of academic or actual age), or
- who are retired professors (with priority given to seminar convenors).
Scholars at risk do not need to be ESSE members to apply for a conference fee waiver but must be presenters.
Recipients will be selected based on the strength of their application packages. Preference will be given to early career scholars and scholars at risk, participants who have no funding, are unemployed or receive low income, as well as participants who have not previously received a fee waiver for an ESSE event.
Details of the application process can be found here:
Applicants who are granted a reduced fee/full fee waiver will be sent a special link for registration.
Accompanying people
If you have someone accompanying you to the conference, they must be included on your registration form. For a fee, they can attend any or all of the following:
- welcome apéro (Monday evening)
- poster session apéro (Tuesday evening)

- social programme activities provided by Lausanne Tourism
