Doctoral Symposium

One of the features of the 17th ESSE Conference is the Doctoral Symposium, which continues an ESSE tradition dating from 2012. It is designed to provide a platform for young scholars to present and receive feedback on their work.

The participants in the Symposium are all PhD students in English Studies from across the various Associations affiliated to ESSE. Each participant gives a brief presentation of their work in progress, followed bya discussion led by the convenors. These presentations deal with the issues addressed or hypotheses tested in their doctoral research, the results so far obtained, and, above all, the methodology applied, with the purpose of getting valuable feedback from peers and established scholars in the field.

This year, there are 23 participants in Literatures in English, 10 participants in Cultural and Area Studies and 14 participants in English Language.

The Symposium will be held in Synthalon in parallel to sessions 2 through 6 of the conference programme. One series will be devoted to the Literatures in English strand of the Symposium, while the other will host the English Language and Cultural and Area Studies strands.

Please note that online participation is not possible.

Participants who wish to attend the rest of the conference should contact Lachlan Mackenzie for the link to the registration form. (There are fees associated with attending the conference and social activities. You may apply for a fee waiver; see the Registration page for details about this.)
