About this book series

« The series Law and Literature in Europe provides a platform for anthologies and monographs that explore European research at the intersection of law and literature. Both disciplines are highly relevant to society. While literature observes, interprets and even anticipates social developments, law provides pragmatic solutions to real-world social problems. Literary sensitivity can shed light on legal contexts, identify loopholes in legislation, and shape the development of forward-looking legal drafts. As such, law and literature complement each other in their joint endeavour to find answers to the pressing questions of our time. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the ‘Law-and-Literature’ movement in Europe seems to have developed a dynamic of its own, differing in many ways from the older American ‘Law-and-Literature’ movement. This is likely due to Europe’s cultural, literary, legal and linguistic diversity. Accordingly, the series focuses on works that emphasise the autonomy of European legal and literary research in all its diversity. Volumes that address European research on law and literature in relation to current social issues are particularly welcome. »
