Izabel Barros will be the respondent for the lecture “Refugee Stories, Plantation Prehistories” by Professor Anooradha Iyer Siddiqi. This event is part of the Plantation Talks lecture series organised by Prof. Will Davis, SNSF Ambizione Fellow at the University of Mendrisio. The series, which will take place on 23 November 2024 from 17:00 to 18:30 at the Living Room in Bern, explores the architectural legacies and lived experiences of plantation landscapes in different geographies, using the plantation as a model for understanding resource extraction in historically affected territories. Izabel’s contribution will broaden the discussion by linking her research on women’s history on a Swiss-owned plantation in Brazil to the broader themes raised by Professor Siddiqi.
