“Intersectional Feminist Research Colloquium” with Izabel Barros

Izabel Barros will be contributing to the “Intersectional Feminist Research Colloquium” on November 5th, an event organized by the Interdisziplinäres Zentrum für Geschlechterforschung (IZFG) at the University of Bern. In her session, she will outline the main themes of her dissertation, discuss her research approach, and explore the historical archives she has been studying. Izabel extends her gratitude to Professors Patricia Purtschert and Anukriti Dixit for their efforts in organizing this significant event.

Her presentation will highlight the importance of intersectional feminism in academic research and the necessity of applying a gender lens to the study of transatlantic slavery. Through this perspective, she aims to deepen our understanding of the agency, resistance, and negotiation of enslaved women and children, shedding light on the complex power dynamics that shaped their lives and experiences throughout history.
