Climate Informatics is an open, interdisciplinary community at the intersection of climate science, statistics, machine learning, and data mining. Our goal is to accelerate discovery in climate research by connecting diverse fields and fostering collaboration between data scientists and climate experts. The community provides a platform for exchanging ideas, sharing tools and datasets, and advancing methods that deepen our understanding of the Earth’s climate system.

About the conference
A core activity of the community is the Climate Informatics Conference, held annually since its founding by Claire Monteleoni and Gavin Schmidt. It brings together researchers from across disciplines to present advances in data‑driven climate science, address emerging methodological and scientific challenges, and foster new collaborations. Through the conference and its broader community, Climate Informatics promotes innovation, openness, and exchange, contributing to progress in understanding and modeling the Earth’s changing climate.
Climate informatics 2026 will take place in Lausanne, Switzerland from April 27 to April 30, 2026.
The conference is hosted by the Expertise Center for Climate Extremes (ECCE) and the Geocomputing Center (GC) at the University of Lausanne (UNIL). It is organized in partnership with the University of Geneva (UNIGE), the Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC), the Ecole des Ponts ParisTech (ENPC), the University of California Davis (UC Davis), the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL), the University of Bern (UNIBE), the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI), and the Center for Climate Systems Modeling (C2SM). The conference is sponsored by the Faculty of Geosciences and Environment at UNIL, the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), the National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology (INRIA), NVIDIA, and Foundation for UNIL.
