Envies d’agir: Kate Raworth, rethinking the economy with the Doughnut

février 19 @ 13:00 - 14:30

An honorary gift from UNIL to its Nobel Prize laureate, Envies d’agir is a cycle of lectures on the major scientific and societal issues of our time, with renowned speakers invited by prof. Jacques Dubochet on themes close to his heart. Kate Raworth will be the guest speaker at the University of Lausanne on Monday, February 19, from 13:00 to 14:30.

Kate Raworth is economist and invented the Doughnut economics. In her book, published in 2017, she rethinks the parameters that should (according to her) guide the economy: to satisfy the basic needs of all human beings, without exceeding planetary limits.

This Doughnut model is being adopted by a growing number of territories around the world, which are using this conceptual framework and Raworth’s doughnut economics principles to respond to the socio-ecological challenges of the 21st century. UNIL is one of these pioneers, using the Doughnut model to guide its own transformation.

How does the Doughnut redefine socio-ecological issues of the 21st century? How can the economy be transformed to meet human needs without exceeding planetary limits? How can the Doughnut model become a compass for action in cities, businesses and… universities?

Although the economist will be speaking remotely in English, this event can be experienced in public, in the Nucleo room (Vortex).
You can also follow the event online (we’ll send you a link to YouTube 1 day before the event). This event is free and open to the general public.
