- BEng, Civil Engineering, University of Manchester, UK, 2006
Ben is from Yorkshire, in the north of England. After graduating with a bachelors in Civil Engineering, Ben worked in mountain sports instruction; arboriculture; and ecology in Scotland, Canada, New Zealand, and finally the French Alps. He is now enrolled in a Master of Science in Environmental Science, orientation Earth Surface Processes in Mountain Environments. His master thesis, entitled “Investigating hanging glacier geometries with ground penetrating radar”, is using GPR to determine subglacial geometries in steep and difficult to access ice at the Aiguille du Midi, Chamonix, France, the valley he also calls home. His project is co-supervised by James Irving, Christophe Lambiel (UNIL), and Ludovic Ravanel (Laboratoire Environnement de Dynamiques des Territoires de Montagne de l’Université Savoie Mont Blanc, Chambéry, France). In his free time, Ben is a ski tourer, and mountain bike adventurer, and is passionate about wild places and the mountain environment.
