In an interview with Le Nouvelliste, Raphaël Zumofen revealed the results of his study into the use of digital platforms by communes in Valais. Only 55 of the 122 communes are active on Facebook, while use of Instagram and Twitter remains marginal. Zumofen explains that the size of communes is not a determining factor in their online presence, citing examples such as Noble-Contrée, which was very active with 213 publications in 2022 despite its small size. He nevertheless recommends a clear and coherent strategy before investing in a presence on social networks, stressing the importance of regular engagement and interaction with citizens. However, he notes that many local authorities lack the resources to manage these platforms effectively, often preferring simply to disseminate information rather than initiate a genuine dialogue with the population.
