The project’s team is participating in this conference organised by Istituto Svizzero in Rome. Giovanni Favero will lead us to the origins of tourism in Venice, in particular to the invention of the Carnival. Mathis Stock will deliver the two-day conference closing remarks. Victor Anduze Rivero, Davide Ceccato and Valérian Geffroy will present, through posters specifically designed for the occasion, the general outline of the research project, as well as three of the urban case studies–Paris, Venice and Lucerne.
The conference will gather journalists, tourism professionals, elected representatives and academics around the latest developements of the debate on tourism in Italy and Switzerland, in particular in three cities among the most involved in this debate: Venice, Lucerne and Rome.
Full programme is accessible on the website of the Istituto Svizzero, along with the onsite or online registration links.
How exactly is tourism quantified? The project aims at answering this question, not only through the most complete and most detailed possible overview of statistical datasets and producers, but also through the analysis of the contexts, practices, and decisions of human actors who make or use these statistics.
This first working paper lays out the research protocol which will allow us to answer this question.
