PhD Student

Maria is a Pharmacist, and gained her MPharm from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Greece). She holds a Master’s degree in Drug Design and Development – Pharmaceutical Chemistry and has professional experience in the analytical development department in the pharmaceutical industry using HPLC and LC-MS/MS. During this period she developed a strong interest in the field of metabolomics and lipidomics and she was motivated to expand her skills and gain additional knowledge in the application of metabolomics on the investigation of microbiome-derived metabolites.
Her PhD project will focus on microbiome-derived lipids, from structural characterization to quantitative profiling across a diverse range of human biofluids. Her work will include challenging matrices such as breast milk and feces, helping us better understand how microbial metabolites contribute to human health.
