Several DEEers enjoyed stunning views of the Lavaux area on a bike ride organised by Roman Arguello. Seasoned and casual cyclists made the roundtrip from Lausanne to Chexbres, with some well-deserved refreshments along the way. Well done, everyone!

Antoine Guisan and colleagues have published an article in Scientific Reports entitled "Linking plant and vertebrate species to Nature’s Contributions to People in the Swiss Alps".
|
Although ecosystem services or nature’s contributions to people are now well established in the conservation ecology science, these definitions of services for humans were often used in opposition to biodiversity conservation. In a new paper just out, we proposed to associate more tightly ES/NCP directly with species. To do this, we created a table relating more than 2’000 species (plants and vertebrates observed in the Swiss Alps) with 17 NCPs. We illustrated the 31,098 identified species-NCP relationships for the two lineages and discuss why such a table is a key initial step in building spatial predictions of NCPs directly from species occurrences or predictions, as a way to complement spatial conservation planning.

Philippe Christe co-authored a paper in the Journal of Invertebrate Pathology entitled: The son-killer microbe Arsenophonus nasoniae is a widespread associate of the parasitic wasp Nasonia vitripennis in Europe. This study is the result of a European collaboration led by Gregory Hurst of the University of Liverpool, UK.

Romain Pigeault, while working for the Christe group, directed Angela Ruiz de la Paz's master's degree. This work, supplemented by part of Julie Isaïa's thesis with the precious help of Molly Baur and Olivier Glaizot from the Museum of Zoology, led to a publication in Frontiers in Ecology and Evolution entitled:

While you are encouraged to place your publications into Serval, please make sure that your PI has validated the deposition first. Not all documents should be included in Serval, and they are complicated to remove.
