Governing AI at university: an HEC Lausanne workshop brings disciplines together

On 10 and 11 June 2026, HEC Lausanne hosted the second edition of the AI Usage and Regulation workshop, organised by UNIL and the Université Paris-Est Créteil and coordinated by Virginie Lurkin and Arnold Vialfont. It brought together specialists in computer science, law, economics, management, ethics and public policy to discuss how AI is integrated into universities.

Themes included AI as an institutional choice, infrastructure decisions (including the Apertus model), teaching uses, internal governance and responsible use. The report notably quotes Nicolas Salamin, AI delegate of the UNIL executive board. Its main message: regulating AI also strengthens an institution’s ability to govern itself.
