On 24 September 2026, a workshop on “Fighting Disinformation & the Role of AI” was organized by the HEC Research Center for Grand Challenges and the Department of Information Systems at HEC Lausanne, with Prof. Liudmila Zavolokina and Prof. Patrick Haack among the lead organizers.
The event brought together researchers, policymakers, media professionals and technology experts to discuss the growing impact of artificial intelligence on the creation, dissemination, and verification of digital information.
During her presentation, Valentina Ebrahimi discussed how trust can be established in digital information when content can increasingly be generated, modified, and processed using AI-based tools.
A central theme of her presentation was the transition from chain-of-custody to chain-of-trust. The latter focuses on maintaining verifiable information about the origin, provenance, integrity and transformation history of digital content, allowing its evolution to be traced across different systems and stakeholders.
