Gabriela grew up in Zagreb, Croatia, where she developed a deep love for mathematics and numerical modeling. Her academic journey took her to Vancouver, Canada, where she completed a PhD in geophysics at UBC, specializing in glaciology. Her research combined field observations and inverse modeling to map the subglacial drainage system of a small temperate glacier and study its seasonal evolution. This work brought her to Kluane National Park in the Yukon Territory, where she participated in six field campaigns over three summers. One of the highlights of her PhD was camping on a surging glacier.
Now a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Lausanne, Gabriela uses high-resolution UAV-based GPR and photogrammetry data to study glacier dynamics and subglacial hydrology. She has also taken part in several field campaigns in the Swiss Alps.
Beyond her research, Gabriela is passionate about mentoring students, engaging in outreach to share her love for science, and fostering inclusivity in fieldwork. In her free time, she enjoys baking, reading fantasy books, playing board games, hiking, and exploring the outdoors with her family.
