Zürcher «Mohren»-Fantasien. Eine bau- und begriffsgeschichtliche Bestandesaufnahme, ca. 1400–2023

On Tuesday, March 28th, Bernhard C. Schär will present to the media a report commissioned by the City of Zurich and co-authored with Ashkira Darman. The report is entitled “Zürcher «Mohren»-Fantasien. Eine bau- und begriffsgeschichtliche Bestandesaufnahme, ca. 1400–2023”.
It examines the genealogy of the term “Moor” in Zurich and German-speaking Europe from the medieval Crusades, through the period of the slave trade and colonialism, to the more recent debate on “raceless racism”.
