Dear all,

We would like to invite you to DESI seminar by Dr. Liudmila Zavolokina (UZH)

When & Where: 29 May 2024 (Wednesday) @ 12:15-13:15 [Internef 237]

Title: “Think Fast, Think Slow, Think Critical: Designing an Automated Propaganda Detection Tool”
Abstract:

In today’s digital age, characterized by rapid news consumption and increasing vulnerability to propaganda, fostering citizens’ critical thinking is crucial for stable democracies. This research explores the intersection of psychology and artificial intelligence to address this challenge. I will discuss the power of digital nudging and Large Language Models to identify propaganda in news content and stimulate more analytical and critical engagement with information. This study presents a design of such a propaganda detection tool and discusses its implications for understanding and combating digital propaganda. Can AI truly enhance critical thinking in news consumption? What are the limitations of using AI for propaganda detection?
