Attracted by medical microbiology, his Master’s thesis was focused on the response of Staphylococcus aureus to beta-lactam antibiotics and probing the molecular basis of resistance development using genetics and fluorescence microscopy. Peter is interested in microbe-host interactions and bacterial evolution. His project in the Keel lab aimed at understanding the molecular basis, evolution and regulation of insecticidal activity in plant-beneficial Pseudomonas bacteria, focusing at the role of an insecticidal toxin and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) biosynthesis during insect infection. He succesfully defended his PhD thesis in July 2015.
