Bastien is from Clermont-Ferrand, a volcanic city located in the heart of the French central massif. He completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in General Engineering at the École Centrale de Nantes (ECN), as well as a second Master’s degree in Earth and Space Physics and Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He got in touch with the Cryospheric world while writing his Master thesis in collaboration with the Geological Survey of Greenland and Denmark (GEUS), where he dealt with magnetotelluric data measurements and inferred the electrical conductivity distribution of the subsurface of the Nuusuaq Peninsula, Western Greenland. At the University of Lausanne, he is now working as a PhD candidate on the development of a lightweight drone-based GPR system and uses it to record large high-density 3D GPR datasets over several Swiss glaciers. He is in charge of substantial fieldworks (logistic, organisation, management), and wish to develop into a leadership position. As part of his PhD, he has been recording, to our knowledge, the biggest high-density 3D/4D GPR datasets ever collected over alpine glaciers, which will be used by the CRAG group to investigate glacier’s internal dynamics and hydrology. He also strongly values scientific outreach and always try to explain his work with simple words, which he has done through talks and videos. In his free time, Bastien enjoys all kinds of sports (tennis, judo, ski, football, hiking) and likes to travel, especially by bike. He also appreciates creative activities like photography and filmmaking, and never says no to a chill time on the shore of the Leman lake!
