Welcome

Perinatal depression, affecting both birthing and non-birthing parents during pregnancy and up to a year after birth, is a commo2n but often overlooked condition. Unlike the temporary « baby blues » experienced by many new mothers, it requires proper prevention, diagnosis and care. In Switzerland, many families, especially co-parents and LGBTQ+ parents, often don’t get the support they need because healthcare providers lack consistent training and clear guidelines.

The SHINE project is focusing on understanding and addressing perinatal depression in an inclusive way. This includes the experiences of mothers, but also fathers, partners, and LGBTQ+ parents, who often face unique challenges that are not well understood. By developing gender-sensitive healthcare models and creating guidelines for clinical practice, the project will ensure that perinatal mental health services are comprehensive and accessible to all parents (regardless of gender, sexual orientation, or family constellation).

Ultimately, SHINE seeks to improve mental health support for all new parents.
