Below, you will find general information to plan your trip to Lausanne and organize your stay.
Before the conference
How to get to Lausanne
By plane
Geneva airport is the closest to Lausanne (approx. 45 min). Whether you are arriving from Geneva, Zurich or Basel airports, the best way to reach Lausanne from Switzerland’s airports is by train. You can find all the timetables and prices on the railway company’s website.
By train
Lausanne has good railway connections with several cities in southern and northern Europe. The station is very close to the city center.
By car
You can come to Lausanne by car, but the city center has limited parking options. Check with your hotel whether private parking is available. If not, you’ll find below a list of (quite expensive!) car parks in the city center:
– Parking de la Riponne
– Parking Alpha-Palmiers
– Parking Caroline
– Parking Chauderon
– Parking Bellefontaine
– Parking Mon-Repos
– Parking Montbenon
Keep in mind that driving on Swiss highways requires a highway sticker (CHF 40.-, valid from January to December). It can be purchased either at the border or online.
Public transport in the Lausanne area
All the timetables and route maps for bus and metro are available on the Lausanne public transport website.
Hotels in Lausanne provide a personal Lausanne Transport Card. With this card, you can use public transport (bus, train, metro) for free during your stay in the Lausanne area (incl. the University of Lausanne). You can also benefit from discounts and advantages at museums or shops. Take a look at the discounts here.
If you are staying in another type of accommodation, you will need to buy a public transport ticket. For the Lausanne area, including the travel to the University, you need to buy a two-zone 11+12 ticket (CHF 3.70, valid for 1 hour OR CHF 9.30, valid all day).
