The Sanders’ group are involved in a new project funded in the UK by NERC entitled “Can plant fungal symbioses underpin plant diversity?”. This project represents a collaboration between Vincent Savolainen (Main PI, Imperial College), Martin Bidartondo (Kew Royal Botanic Gardens) and the Sanders group. The project will investigate the role that mycorrhizal symbioses between fungi and palms have been responsible for the speciation of palms on islands. The project will start later in 2022.

Maarten Reijnders from the Waterhouse group published in the journal PeerJ, his weighted sequence similarity and python-based open-source protein function prediction software, Wei2GO. It uses DIAMOND and HMMScan sequence alignment searches against the UniProtKB and Pfam databases respectively, transfers Gene Ontology terms from the reference protein to the query protein, and uses a weighing algorithm to calculate a score for the Gene Ontology annotations. Wei2GO is written in Python 3, and is available from https://gitlab.com/mreijnders/Wei2GO, additionally, Snakemake scripts are provided to run the full annotation pipeline, and update the databases to their latest versions.

While you are encouraged to place your publications into Serval, please make sure that your PI has validated the deposition first. Not all documents should be included in Serval, and they are complicated to remove.
