ERC Synergy Grant

Researchers based in Switzerland are fully eligible to apply to a an ERC Synergy Grant, as part of a group of 2-4 PIs (Principal investigators) with complimentary expertise joining forces to tackle a complex research problem. One Principal Investigator per Synergy Grant group at any one time can be hosted or engaged by an institution outside of the EU or Associated Countries. Up to €10 mio of funding can be requested per project for a period of 6 years.

Eligibility Criteria

No specific eligibility criteria regarding the academic training are foreseen for ERC Synergy Grants. PIs must present an early achievement track-record or a ten-year track-record, whichever is most appropriate. Principal Investigators can be at any of the 3 following career stages. Profile of an ERC Advanced grant: ERC Advanced Grant PIs are expected to be active researchers and to have a track record of significant research achievements in their field during the last 10 years. A competitive Advanced Grant Principal Investigator must have already shown a record which identifies them as an exceptional leader in terms of originality and significance of their research contributions

Profile of an ERC Starting grant: A competitive STG PI must have already shown the potential for research independence and evidence of maturity, for example by having produced at least one important publication as main author or without the participation of their PhD supervisor.

Profile of an ERC Consolidator grant: A competitive COG PI must have already shown
research independence and evidence of maturity, for example by having produced several important publications as main author or without the participation of their PhD supervisor.
