Our paper “Biased by Design: Leveraging AI Biases to Enhance Critical Thinking of News Readers” has been accepted at ECIS 2025!
So what’s the paper about?
We usually talk about bias in AI as a problem to eliminate – especially in political contexts. But what if we flipped that idea?
In this work, we explore how AI’s inherent political biases could actually be used intentionally – not to mislead, but to nudge users into deeper critical thinking. We explore this idea through the design of a propaganda detection tool, grounding it in cognitive mechanisms like confirmation bias and cognitive dissonance.
The result? Thoughtful design can turn AI bias into a feature – one that prompts users to reflect, question, and expand their viewpoints.
