DBC News is a monthly publication that seeks to inform first and foremost faculty members, researchers and students. It also reaches out to a wider community - Department of Computational Biology partners, visiting faculty and friends.
|
Alongside the Department's website it is a complementary means of keeping abreast of the Department's rich and diversified scientific activities - visiting faculty, exceptional conferences, publications, awards, appointments, calls for papers and research, ...

My name is Guilhem Panneau, and I am biosciences engineer graduated from the National Institute of Applied Sciences in Lyon, France. My main interest is to model biological systems to better understand their functioning. For instance, I modeled the efficacy of ribavirin treatment on the chikungunya virus during a summer internship in the Vignuzzi Lab at Pasteur Institute, France. Read more

Assistant-Student, Group Dessimoz
|
Samuel obtained his bachelor's degree in Biology at the University of Lausanne. He is currently pursuing a master’s degree in molecular biology, specialized in bioinformatics, at the Statistical Genetics Group under the supervision of Chiara Auwerx. During the autumn semester of 2021 he worked on detecting “Whole genome duplication events” under the supervision of Sina Majidian from the Dessimoz Lab. He is now joining the Dessimoz Lab to work in science outreach in the context of the “In the light of evolution” project. https://lightofevolution.org/en/about/

After obtaining an MSc degree in Molecular Life Science and Bioinformatics, I started a PhD in the lab of Nicolas Salamin at the University of Lausanne. In my PhD research, I investigated the genomic basis of the adaptive radiation of clownfishes, a fascinating group of coral reef fishes. Following my interests in evolutionary genomics and species diversification, I did a postdoc at the Conservatory and Botanical Garden in Geneva. There, I worked with Dr Mathieu Perret and studied the mechanisms driving the diversification of Gesneriaceae, a group of neotropical plants. I am now re-joining the group of Nicolas Salamin to pursue the investigation of the processes driving the diversification of clownfishes.

Reconstructing the human past: using ancient and modern genomics
13 - 16 Sep 2022 - co-organised by DBC professor, Anna-Sapfo Malaspinas
|
Combining genome-wide data from ancient and modern populations opens new windows into the past. Population-scale sequencing projects investigating past and present human diversity have already provided us with extraordinary insights into patterns of human variation and mobility through time and space. Virtual registration still open Read more
