From Outcrop to 3D Model

A new course, From Outcrop to 3D Model, is proposed to graduate students in geology from ELSTE. This course links structural geology with 3D data acquisition techniques, such as laser scanning or SfM. Students learn how to acquire and process point cloud data, make structural measurements in the field and combines all their observations in 3D numerical model (MOVE or Leapfrog). The study site is the Mont de Baulmes anticline in the Jura Mountain.

Teachers: M-H Derron, J-L Epard, A. Gutierrez and Ch. Jossevel

Lidar acquisition of the anticline hinge
Point cloud analysis in coltop3d
Preliminary model in MOVE-IPM
