Learning a new language can present various challenges, and one common hurdle is the difficulty of finding suitable learning materials that match our proficiency level. Without access to appropriately leveled content, it becomes harder to practice and reinforce language skills effectively. Professor Michalis Vlachos and Professor Yash Raj Shrestha set out to tackle this issue with Lingorank.
The platform aims to assess users’ linguistic proficiency by inquiring about the level of difficulty experienced while reading articles or watching videos. Based on this information, the system recommends more advanced content and provides exercises that involve completing sentences based on these articles/videos.
To make the idea a reality in terms of tool and application, Professor Yash and Professor Michalis decided to join UNIL’s UCreate 3 – an acceleration program that supports all types of projects, especially those with a social and/or environmental impact.
