Heterogeneity among tanycyte populations and tanycyte/neuron partnerships
The arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus (ARH) and the median eminence (ME) are considered the primary regions in integrating metabolic information for the regulation of energy balance. Within these regions, multiple cell types, including NPY and POMC neurons, tanycytes, astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, and endothelial cells, work together to respond and adapt to metabolic changes. Lining the floor of the 3V and sending a single basal process into the hypothalamic parenchyma, tanycytes are in contact with vessels, astrocytes, oligodendrocytes, and neurons. However, the extent and dynamics of tanycyte heterogeneity and tanycyte-cell contacts according to metabolic conditions are largely unknown. In this project, we aim to decipher the morphological and gene expression plasticity of the mouse ARH/EM network regulating energy homeostasis, taking tanycytes as a central node.
