Men\u00e9e avec le Dr. Nicholas Rogers (postdoctorant), Achille Kienholz (doctorant) et Jean-Fran\u00e7ois von Gunten (expert en m\u00e9canique), cette recherche fait un usage conjoint des outils de la musicologie, de l\u2019ethnomusicologie et de l\u2019histoire de l\u2019art pour retracer l\u2019usage du son dans le monde forain \u00e0 travers le temps. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les f\u00eates foraines, comme la Basler Herbstmesse ou la Knabenschiessen \u00e0 Zurich, constituent un aspect fondamental de l&rsquo;histoire de la culture populaire en Suisse et doivent \u00eatre valoris\u00e9es et pr\u00e9serv\u00e9es, \u00e9tant reconnues comme des traditions vivantes appartenant \u00e0 notre patrimoine culturel national par l&rsquo;Office f\u00e9d\u00e9ral de la culture. La musique a toujours fait partie int\u00e9grante de l&rsquo;exp\u00e9rience foraine, que ce soit sous la forme de spectacles vivants ou, depuis les ann\u00e9es 1830, par le biais d&rsquo;instruments m\u00e9caniques. Cet aspect sonore, qui accompagne la plupart des formes de spectacles, d&rsquo;attractions et de man\u00e8ges forains, est presque totalement ignor\u00e9 dans les tentatives d&rsquo;\u00e9crire l&rsquo;histoire des f\u00eates foraines et des forains. Pourtant, les instruments de musique apparaissent comme l&rsquo;une des caract\u00e9ristiques les plus menac\u00e9es, puisque les anciens man\u00e8ges et instruments ont tendance \u00e0 \u00eatre mis au rebut pour faire place \u00e0 de nouveaux mat\u00e9riaux, et que les f\u00eates foraines \u00e9voluent constamment pour s&rsquo;adapter aux nouvelles tendances populaires. Le projet propos\u00e9 r\u00e9pond \u00e0 l&rsquo;urgence de cet \u00e9tat des lieux, en visant \u00e0 reconstruire les pratiques musicales dans les f\u00eates foraines suisses entre 1830 et 1950.
