About

Bridges in Vocational Psychology

A bridge is not merely a structure of steel and stone, but a testament to human ingenuity and relentless pursuit of connection, spanning the chasms that divide us to bring worlds together. As a metaphor, a bridge embodies the human ability to connect disparate worlds, to forge links between the known and the unknown, the past and the future, and to transform separation into unity. A bridge represents the transformative power of connection, the courage to explore unknown territories and experiences, and the vision to create pathways that unite diverse realms into a harmonious whole.

In the context of vocational psychology, bridges can. be envisioned in multifaceted ways. First, theoretical bridges might span conceptual divides, bring about paradigmatic shifts, or weave together the past, present, and the future. Second, interdisciplinary bridges may connect diverse fields engaged in research in vocational psychology. Third, methodological bridges could enrich quantitative and qualitative research paradigms, both between and within these paradigms. Fourth, geographical bridges might bring acknowledgment and celebration of cultural differences in vocational research and practice. Fifth, intergenerational bridges can connect early career researches with seasoned expert, nurturing mentorship and the exchange of wisdom. Lastly, bridges between theory, research, and practice are needed to ensure that academic advancements translate into tangible benefits for individuals, groups, societies, and the global community, while also allowing research to learn from and be inspired by practice-originated knowledge.

On behalf of the Society for Vocational Psychology, the European Society for Vocational Designing and Career Counseling, and the University of Lausanne, we welcome you to join us in Switzerland, to envision together new bridges to build and new worlds to reach as a united community.
