Guido analyzed the specific type of mixed dialect resulting from contact between Bernese German and Pennsylvania Dutch in Indiana.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jonathan Kasstan<\/strong> and <strong>Anita Auer<\/strong> organised a panel on &#8220;Exploring attitude and prestige in the \u2018heritage language\u2019 context: a cross-linguistic perspective&#8221; at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.um.es\/web\/sociolinguistics-symposium21\/\">Sociolinguistics Symposium 21<\/a> in Murcia, 15-18 June 2016. Relevant powerpoint slides can be downloaded <a href=\"https:\/\/www.academia.edu\/26301417\/Colloquium_Exploring_attitudes_and_prestige_in_the_heritage_language_context_a_cross-linguistic_perspective\"><strong>HERE<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anita Auer<\/strong> gave a talk on Swiss heritage speakers past and present<img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-243 size-medium alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/sina\/files\/2016\/09\/14939599_1252831371404768_7520402585879509833_o-232x300.jpg\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/sina\/files\/2016\/09\/14939599_1252831371404768_7520402585879509833_o-232x300.jpg 232w, https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/sina\/files\/2016\/09\/14939599_1252831371404768_7520402585879509833_o.jpg 618w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/> at the\u00a0Oktoberfest on 4 November 2016, organised for the Friends of the Max Kade Institute in Madison (Wisconsin).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Guido Seiler<\/strong> gave a guest lecture on &#8220;Eine neue Sprache entsteht: Aktuelle Entwicklungen in der Sprachinsel des &#8216;Shwitzer&#8217; (Indiana, USA) zwischen Isolation und Kontakt&#8221; at the University of Zurich (CH) on 6 December 2016.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2017<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Anita Auer<\/strong> and <strong>Alexandra Derungs<\/strong> gave an invited talk about the Swiss Islands in North America project, and in particular their recent visit to New Glarus, at the <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/sina\/files\/2016\/09\/Stubete-2017-Sprachinseln-in-Nordamerika-_-A42.pdf\">Glarnert\u00fc\u00fctsch Stubete in Hotel Glarnerhof<\/a>, Glarus (CH) on 29 January 2017.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Guido Seiler<\/strong> gave a guest lecture on &#8220;Aktuelle Entwicklungen der Zwillingssprachinsel des &#8216;Shwitzer&#8217; in Indiana (USA)&#8221; at the University of Bamberg (D) on 1 February 2017.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Guido Seiler<\/strong> will give an invited talk on &#8220;Language structure as a mirror picture of social structure? The case of Shwitzer language of Adams County, IN&#8221;, as part of the workshop &#8220;People of Faith, Voices of Tradition: Germanic Heritage Languages among Christians and Jews&#8221;, at the Max-Kade Institute, University of Wisconsin-Madison (30 March-1 April 2017).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Anita Auer<\/strong> will give a plenary talk on &#8220;Preserving Swiss Dialects in the Diaspora: The Social Life of a Wisconsin Language Island&#8221; at the <a href=\"https:\/\/hison2017.info\/\">Historical Sociolinguistics 2017 Conference<\/a> at <span class=\"st\">CUNY Graduate Center<\/span> in New York (6-7 April 2017).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Guido Seiler<\/strong> will give a talk on &#8220;Borrowing a grammar without speaking the language?
