{"id":2975,"date":"2015-10-28T10:03:14","date_gmt":"2015-10-28T09:03:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/risk\/?p=2975"},"modified":"2023-12-06T11:03:47","modified_gmt":"2023-12-06T10:03:47","slug":"sabbatical-stay-at-dpri-kyoto-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/risk\/sabbatical-stay-at-dpri-kyoto-university\/","title":{"rendered":"Sabbatical stay at DPRI Kyoto University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Michel Jaboyedoff had a sabbatical stay at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dpri.kyoto-u.ac.jp\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Disaster Prevention Research Institute<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dpri.kyoto-u.ac.jp\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DPRI<\/a>) of Kyoto University at Uji Campus from July 18 March to August 16, 2015. This was kindly financed by University of Kyoto which supported a project by Prof Masahiro\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.slope.dpri.kyoto-u.ac.jp\/personal\/chigira\/HomePageEG\/indexEG.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chigira <\/a>from the DPRI. The stay was dedicated to estimate the failure surface geometry of landslides based the use of airborne Lidar DEM before and after the Typhon Talas (see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0169555X13003693\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chigira et al., 2013<\/a>) using the SLBL. This was the opportunity to visit the impressive number of deep seated landslides that were triggered by Typhoon Talas. The LiDAR DEM permitted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0169555X13003693\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chigira et al. <\/a>(2013) to demonstrate the existence of pre-existing deformations affecting the slopes before Talas.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/risk\/files\/2015\/11\/P1110651.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2976\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/risk\/files\/2015\/11\/P1110651.jpg\" alt=\"P1110651\" width=\"1000\" height=\"750\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/risk\/files\/2015\/11\/P1110651.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/risk\/files\/2015\/11\/P1110651-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\"><em>Akatani-E landslide which occurred during the Typhoon Tala (2-5 Sept. 2011) in Kii Peninsula (Japan) (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0169555X13003693\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chigira et al., 2013<\/a>).<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">In addition, M. Jaboyedoff was able to participate with students to a field visit led by Prof M.\u00a0<em>C<\/em>higira and Prof G. Wang the Tokushima landslide observatory. This observatory is dedicates to the understanding of various aspects of \u00a0slope deformation such has groundwater effects.<br \/>\nThis stay was very interesting, and M.
