{"id":12,"date":"2013-08-13T11:19:53","date_gmt":"2013-08-13T09:19:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/risk\/?page_id=12"},"modified":"2025-02-03T15:07:12","modified_gmt":"2025-02-03T14:07:12","slug":"research","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/risk\/research\/","title":{"rendered":"Main research themes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our research focuses on the analysis of every type of rock mass and slope instabilities, such as :\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rockfall<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Landslide<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Debris flow<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rockmass stability in tunnels<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">etc<\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On areas considered at risk, we estimate the susceptibility of instabilities, describing possible scenarios of failure limits and volume and propagation runout. Those scenarios are based on lithology, topography, joints organization, geomechanical studies and the geological history of the considered area.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When accidents occur, it is also the occasion to study and understand the instability mechanisms to foresee possible future instabilities and recommend possible mitigation measures.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Our group uses a very wide range of remote sensing techniques to study instabilities, at different scales, from satellite data to geological fieldwork acquisitions.
