She showed that insects are able to weaken plants defenses in the case of an attack. He carried-out his Master project in our group on the role of egg-derived elicitors in triggering defenses against microbial pathogens in Arabidopsis. After a short stay in the group of Laurent Zimmerli in Taipei, he&nbsp;joined&nbsp;the group of Alain Goossens (VIB, Ghent, BE) as postdoc, funded by FNS and EMBO fellowships. Fabian studied the regulation of secondary metabolism in&nbsp;<em>Catharanthus&nbsp;roseus.<\/em>&nbsp;Back in the group under the &#8220;return grant&#8221; program of the FNS, he studied the role of secondary metabolism against herbivory in <em>Marchantia&nbsp;<\/em><i>polymorpha<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Current position: scientist at Fenaco, Moudon<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right\">&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h4>Rapha\u00ebl Groux,&nbsp;PhD student (2015- 2019)<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-732 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2013\/08\/raph-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"raph\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><\/p>\n<p>Rapha\u00ebl graduated from the MLS master program of the University of Lausanne. He studied the hypersensitive response (HR-like) that is induced by <em>Pieris brassicae<\/em> eggs on Arabidopsis and exploited Arabidopsis natural variation to discover new genes regulating this response, including LecRK-I.1 and GLR2.7. He also showed that plant sphingolipids contribute to egg-induced HR-like.<\/p>\n<p>Following positions:<br \/>&#8211; postdoc at Agroscope, Changins<br \/>&#8211; scientist at Agridea, Lausanne<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><span style=\"font-size: 1.5rem\">Zigmunds Orlovskis, postdoc (2017-2020)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2013\/08\/Zigmunds.png\"><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-933 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2013\/08\/Zigmunds-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Zigmunds studied in Latva and then obtained&nbsp;his PhD in Norwich (John Innes Center)&nbsp;in the group of Saskia Hogenhout, working on the role of a bacterial (phytoplasma) effector protein SAP54 in altering plant development and enhancing plant colonisation by its insect vector. Zigmunds joined the group to work on inter-plant responses triggered by insect oviposition in Arabidopsis and discovered egg-induced interplant SAR.<\/p>\n<p>Current position: lecturer position at the University in Riga, Latvia<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<h4>Esteban Alfonso,&nbsp;PhD student (2016-2021 )<\/h4>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-731 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2013\/08\/esteban-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"esteban\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><\/p>\n<p>Esteban started in the group as&nbsp;a master student from the MLS master program&nbsp;of the University of Lausanne. He then studied&nbsp;<em>P. brassicae<\/em>&nbsp;egg-induced systemic acquired resistance against <em>Botrytis cinerea<\/em> in Arabidopsis and established a role for indolic metabolism in this response.<\/p>\n<p>Current position: scientist at Technical school for HES-SO University of Applied Sciences and Arts Western Switzerland, Changins<\/p>\n<h4>&nbsp;<\/h4>\n<h4>Elia Stahl, postdoc (2016-2023)<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2016\/08\/elia.jpg\"><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-763 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2016\/08\/elia-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Elia obtained his PhD in D\u00fcsseldorf in the group of Prof. Juergen Zeier, working on indolic defense metabolites in Arabidopsis. Elia joined the group to work on the characterization of egg-derived elicitors and on plant defense signalling in response to insect oviposition in Arabidopsis. He discovered that egg phosphatidylcholines (PC) act as egg-associated molecular patterns (EAMPs) and induce immune responses in Arabidopsis. He also found that PC is converted to phosphatidic acid (PA) in planta and that PA interacts with Lectin-Receptor Kinases LecRK-I.1\/8.<\/p>\n<p>Current position: group leader (CNRS position) at the European Institute of Chemistry and Biology (IECB), Bordeaux, France<\/p>\n<h4>&nbsp;<\/h4>\n<h4>L\u00e9onie Mottet, master student and research assistant (2022-2024)<\/h4>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2025\/11\/leonie.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-1760\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2025\/11\/leonie-150x150.png\" alt=\"l\u00e9onie\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p>L\u00e9onie studied Biology at the University of Lausanne. For her Master, she studied the role of egg-derived phospholipids on defense responses in Arabidopsis. His PhD was a joint project between our group and the group of Prof. Matthias Erb at the University of Bern. The aim was the identification of inhibitors of direct and indirect defenses in insects oral secretions.&nbsp;Through a series of purification steps, Angel identified an uncoventional effector that suppresses the expression of wound-induced genes.  Although we could not yet determine its identity, this effector  is a is an extremely stable organic compound that does not belong to a major family of molecules. Electrostatic and hydrophilic properties pointed to a small metabolite not especially hydrophilic nor hydrophobic, either neutral or weakly charged. In addition, a transcriptomic study revealed the specific contribution of insect oral secretions to Arabidopsis responses to feeding by Peiris brassicae and Spodoptera littoralis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Current position: traveling and searching for jobs.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Maria Mineiro, PhD student (2020-2025)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2025\/11\/maria.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"546\" height=\"624\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2025\/11\/maria.png\" alt=\"maria\" class=\"wp-image-1762\" style=\"width:177px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2025\/11\/maria.png 546w, https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2025\/11\/maria-263x300.png 263w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 546px) 100vw, 546px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Maria obtained a Master of science from the University of Clermont-Ferrand, where she worked on crop protection. Her PhD project centered on the role of Glutamate-Like Receptors (GLRs) and calcium influx &nbsp;in insect egg-induced necrosis in Arabidopsis.
