In 1992, he returned to the University of Lausanne and joined the group of Ted Farmer to investigate signal transduction in plant defense. In 1997, Philippe spent several months in Stanford to learn the DNA microarray technology and introduced it at the University of Lausanne. Appointed MER (group leader) in 2002, he started his independent research on plant-insect interactions. In 2012, he received the title of privat-docent from the University of Lausanne. In 2014, Philippe was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor.<\/p>\n<p>Philippe retired in August 2026. &nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<h3>&nbsp;<\/h3>\n<h3>Caroline Darimont, lab technician (2008-2026)<\/h3>\n<figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-22 \" src=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2013\/08\/Caro-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Caro\" width=\"166\" height=\"166\"><\/figure>\n<figure><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2025\/12\/caro-nozon-1.jpg\"><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-thumbnail wp-image-1783\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2025\/12\/caro-nozon-1-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><\/a><\/figure>\n<p>Caroline was involved in the Arabidopsis CATMA project and amplified more than 25&#8217;000 GSTs by PCR for realization of a full-genome microarray. Using tomato plants, she found that remorin was involved in the movement of viruses.<\/p>\n<p>Following positions: Ma\u00eetre de conf\u00e9rence, then promoted to Professor, University of Bordeaux<\/p>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Natacha Bodenhausen, PhD student (2002-2007)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-19 \" src=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2013\/08\/Nacha200x140.jpg\" alt=\"Nacha200x140\" width=\"149\" height=\"213\"><\/p>\n<p>Natacha studied the signaling pathways involved in the plant response to insect herbivory. She showed that insects are able to weaken plants defenses in the case of an attack. He revealed a crucial role for MYC2, MYC3, and MYC4 as master regulators of defense gene expression in the JA pathway.<\/p>\n<p>Following positions:<br>&#8211; postdoc in the group of Laurent Zimmerli (Taipei), innate immunity in plants.<br>&#8211; postdoc&nbsp;in the group of Alain Goossens (VIB, Ghent, BE), funded by FNS and EMBO fellowships. For his PhD, he studied the hypersensitive response (HR-like) that is induced by <em>Pieris brassicae<\/em> eggs on Arabidopsis and exploited Arabidopsis natural variation to discover new genes regulating this response, including LecRK-I.1 and GLR2.7. Elia joined the group to work on the characterization of egg-derived elicitors and on plant defense signalling in response to insect oviposition in Arabidopsis. He discovered that egg phosphatidylcholines (PC) act as egg-associated molecular patterns (EAMPs) and induce immune responses in Arabidopsis. He revealed a crucial role for MYC2, MYC3, and MYC4 as master regulators of defense gene expression in the JA pathway. After a short stay in the group of Laurent Zimmerli in Taipei, he joined the group of Alain Goossens (VIB, Ghent, BE) as postdoc, funded by FNS and EMBO fellowships. Fabian studied the regulation of secondary metabolism in <em>Catharanthus&nbsp;roseus.<\/em>&nbsp;Back in the group under the &#8220;return grant&#8221; program of the FNS, he studied the role of secondary metabolism against herbivory in <em>Marchantia&nbsp;<\/em><i>polymorpha<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Current position: scientist at Fenaco, Moudon<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"justify\">\n<h3 align=\"justify\"><strong>Zigmunds Orlovskis, postdoc (2017-2020)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2013\/08\/Zigmunds.png\"><img alt=\"\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-933 size-thumbnail\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.unil.ch\/reymondlab\/files\/2013\/08\/Zigmunds-150x150.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><\/a><\/h2>\n<p>Zigmunds studied in Latva and then obtained&nbsp;his PhD in Norwich (John Innes Center)&nbsp;in the group of Saskia Hogenhout, working on the role of a bacterial (phytoplasma) effector protein SAP54 in altering plant development and enhancing plant colonisation by its insect vector. His PhD was a joint project between our group and the group of Prof. Matthias Erb at the University of Bern. Through a series of purification steps, Angel identified an uncoventional effector in insect oral secretions that suppresses the expression of wound-induced genes.
